Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

Federal executive body of the Russian Federation, carrying out public administration in the field of relations of the Russian Federation with foreign states and international organizations; is subordinate to the President on matters enshrined in the Constitution or in accordance with the laws of the Russian Federation; is headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Federal executive body that performs the functions of development and implementation of state policy and regulation in the field of international relations of the Russian Federation. The activities of the Foreign Ministry are managed by the President. The main task of the ministry is to develop a general foreign policy strategy, submit appropriate proposals to the President and implement the foreign policy course.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs carries out its activities directly and through diplomatic missions and consular posts of the Russian Federation, representations of the Russian Federation at international organizations, and territorial bodies - representations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia on the territory of Russia. The system of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs includes: the central office; foreign institutions; territorial bodies; organizations subordinate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, which ensure its activities in Russia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is guided in its activities by the Constitution, federal constitutional laws, federal laws, acts of the President and the Government, and international treaties.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. The Minister is personally responsible for the implementation of the powers assigned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the implementation of state policy in the established field of activity. The Minister has deputies who are also appointed by the President. The Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is appointed by the President.

Case Ukraine v. Russia in the International Court of Justice

The application filled by the Government of Ukraine for violation by the Russian Federation its obligations under the Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. At the same time, the Government of Ukraine appealed to the ICJ to indicate provisional measures in this case.

Dispute Concerning Coastal State Rights in the Black Sea, Sea of Azov, and Kerch Strait

The dispute concerns the interpretation and application of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea dated 10 December 1982, gross violations of the Convention by Russia. The objective of Ukraine in this arbitration is to get compensation for this serious maritime damage.

Case concerning the detention of three Ukrainian naval vessels

Request of Ukraine for the prescription of provisional measures against the Russian Federation for immediate release three Ukrainian naval vessels and twenty-four members of their crews illegally seized in the Black Sea on 25 November 2018 and detained by the Russian Federation.
